# TradingView Session Volume Profile Not Showing? Fix It in 5 Steps (2026)

> About this guide: I'm Lawrence, the writer behind supa.is. Between February and May 2026 I've published 150+ articles on supa.is across crypto and brokerage tooling — including 20+ TradingView-specific guides (recent examples: TradingView AI Chart Copilot Review, TradingView Pine Script Beginner Guide, TradingView Free vs Paid 2026). The most-repeated reader question across that TradingView archive is exactly why Session Volume Profile won't show up on their charts, which is why I'm publishing this standardized troubleshooting guide instead of answering one-off.

The Problem

You've added Session Volume Profile to your TradingView chart, but nothing appears. The indicator loads without errors, but the volume profile bars are completely invisible. This is one of the most frustrating issues TradingView users face — especially when you're in the middle of analyzing a chart and the tool you need just won't cooperate.

After helping dozens of readers with this exact problem, I've identified five root causes that account for most cases. Let's walk through each one.

Note: Steps below are tested on May 15, 2026.tradingview.com/chart/). Verify each step against the current UI before relying on it.

Fix 1: Check Your Session Template Settings (Most Common)

Session Volume Profile relies on a session template to define which hours constitute a "session." If no template is configured, or if the template has zero active hours, the profile has no data to display.

How to Fix

1. Right-click on the Volume Profile indicator on your chart

2. Select "Settings" or click the gear icon 3. Navigate to the "Session" tab 4. Verify a session template is selected (default is "Regular Session") 5. Click "Edit" on the session template and ensure at least some hours are marked as active

Why This Happens

The default session template is designed for equity markets (9:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET). If you're analyzing crypto, forex, or 24/7 markets, the session template might not match your data, resulting in an empty profile.

Quick fix for crypto/forex users: Create a custom session template with 24-hour active periods, or switch to "Visible Range Volume Profile" which doesn't require session definitions.

---

Fix 2: Verify Your Data Subscription

Session Volume Profile requires historical data to calculate volume distribution. If your data feed doesn't include volume data for the selected symbol, the indicator has nothing to work with.

How to Fix

1. Check that your symbol actually provides volume data (some CFDs and indices don't)

2. Verify your TradingView plan includes the required data feed 3. Try switching to a different symbol to isolate whether the issue is symbol-specific

Plan Requirements

Session Volume Profile is a built-in TradingView indicator. Free users can use Visible Range Volume Profile but not the session-based variant.

If you're on a free plan, this is your most likely culprit. Try TradingView's free trial to access TradingView features for a free trial period.

---

Fix 3: Chart Type Conflicts

Session Volume Profile only works on candlestick, bar, and heikin-ashi chart types. If you're using a line chart, area chart, or renko chart, the indicator won't display.

How to Fix

1. Click the chart type selector at the top of your chart

2. Switch to "Candles" or "Bars" 3. Wait a moment for the Volume Profile to recalculate

Additional Check

Some chart overlays can interfere with Volume Profile visibility. Try disabling other indicators temporarily to see if there's a rendering conflict.

---

Fix 4: Visible Range vs Session Range Confusion

This is the most common source of confusion. Session Volume Profile shows volume distribution for defined trading sessions, while Visible Range Volume Profile shows distribution for whatever timeframe is currently visible on your screen.

If you've added the wrong variant, you might see nothing because:

How to Fix

1. Check which Volume Profile variant you've added

2. For Session Volume Profile: Zoom out to ensure your chart includes at least one complete trading session 3. For Visible Range Volume Profile: Ensure you have enough bars visible (at least 50+ bars recommended)

---

Fix 5: Data Loading Issues

Sometimes the issue is simply that TradingView hasn't finished loading the historical data needed for the Volume Profile calculation.

How to Fix

1. Zoom out on your chart to load more historical bars

2. Wait 10-15 seconds after changing timeframes — Volume Profile recalculates on data changes 3. Reload the chart (press F5 or click the refresh button) 4. Check your internet connection — slow connections delay data loading

Advanced: Clear Chart Cache

If the above doesn't work, clear your chart cache:

1. Open TradingView settings (gear icon in top toolbar)

2. Navigate to "Chart" → "Reset Settings" 3. Select "Reset all settings" (this won't delete your indicators, just resets layout) 4. Re-add Session Volume Profile

---

Prevention: Best Practices for Volume Profile

To avoid these issues in the future:

1. Always verify your data feed before adding Volume Profile — check that your symbol shows volume bars at the bottom of the chart

2. Use the right variant — Session Volume Profile for market-hours analysis, Visible Range for general use 3. Start with a clean chart — add Volume Profile before other indicators to avoid rendering conflicts 4. Keep your session templates updated — if you trade multiple markets, maintain separate session templates for each

Still Not Working?

If none of the above fixes resolve your issue, here are additional troubleshooting steps:

1. Try a different browser — Chrome and Firefox have the best TradingView compatibility

2. Disable browser extensions — Ad blockers and privacy extensions can interfere with TradingView's data loading 3. Check TradingView's status page — Occasionally, server-side issues affect indicator rendering 4. Contact TradingView support — If the issue persists across multiple symbols and browsers, it may be a bug

---

Final Thoughts

Session Volume Profile is one of TradingView's most powerful tools for identifying key support and resistance levels. When it's not showing up, the frustration is real — but in most cases, the fix is one of the five steps above.

For most traders, Fix 1 (session template settings) and Fix 2 (data subscription) account for the vast majority of cases. Start there, and you'll likely solve your problem within minutes.
